Tom Cruise Shares First Picture From ‘Top Gun 2’

Tom Cruise has revealed that filming has begun on Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to the 80s classic.

Taking to Twitter, Cruise shared a photo of himself, seemingly in character – but who knows, maybe he dresses like this all the time – with the caption #Day1.

The new movie will see Cruise reprise his role of Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, but of course he won’t be joined by on-screen wingman Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw following his untimely demise in the original.

In the 1986 film, Goose died after hitting his head when he and Maverick were forced to eject from their F-14 in a scene that left most cinema-goers in bits.

The sequel will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing, and a screenplay by Peter Craig and Justin Marks.

The plot details have been kept strictly under wraps but, according to That Hashtag Show, the new movie will see Goose’s son Riot clashing with Maverick.

According to the cast detail, Riot is a 20-something guy with ‘all-American good looks’ who ‘rode a football scholarship to an Ivy League degree’.

“He distrusts Maverick and dislikes what he stands for, although they have a lot of similarities,” it continues. “Eventually, [he] comes to respect Maverick and uses his techniques.”

Who will play Riot is not yet known.

Unsurprisingly, fans of the classic are very pleased that they’re finally getting a sequel:

So it’s finally happening, then. The film is set to hit cinemas in July 2019.
